|
Challenge |
Tokyo Station operates as one of Japan’s busiest transit mega-hubs, creating a high-traffic environment with highly flexible and time-sensitive advertising demands. Traditionally, managing paper signboards required significant manual labor for printing, physical distribution, and routine replacement. This approach created substantial paper waste and limited campaign flexibility. In addition, introducing traditional digital displays (like LCD or LED) was restricted by the strict infrastructure guidelines of a busy railway station, where installing heavy power lines and cables poses complex engineering challenges. JTA needed an eco-friendly digital solution that could eliminate printing waste and deploy without heavy physical construction. |

Solution |
JTA has launched a pilot deployment of full-color ePaper signage, selecting AUO Display Plus's 31.5-inch AecoPost full-color ePaper display as a key solution to revolutionize its transit signage. Powered by advanced ePaper technology, the AecoPost provides a zero-emission, battery-powered platform specifically optimized for public transit. JTA strategically positioned the 31.5-inch AecoPost ePaper signage units across prime high-traffic advertising points: at the busy Yaesu South Exit and the prominent Nihonbashi Exit. This proof-of-concept project establishes the viability of color ePaper signage in a high-density, real-world transportation hub.

Result |
The pilot deployment at Tokyo Station showcases a seamless integration of digital innovation and eco-friendly infrastructure. By choosing AUO Display Plus's AecoPost solution, JTA solved critical operational challenges related to staff shortages and complex station wiring. The integration established that color ePaper displays can thrive in high-traffic transportation environments while providing significant savings in labor, time, and materials. Moving forward, JTA plans to expand its green digital transformation by accelerating consideration of deploying energy-efficient ePaper signage across the wider JR Tokai station network.
